Cranford House opened its doors to visitors as our annual Open Morning on 7 October got underway.

I was delighted that we were, yet again, joined by a record number of visitors (a 40% increase on last year!) and we continue to be heavily over-subscribed for entry into the school, reflecting its continuing popularity and reputation in the wider community.

Each year, I report back on the number of visitors who commented in glowing terms on the infectious enthusiasm of our pupils and teachers and this year proved no different. My thanks to all those pupils who helped to make Saturday morning such a success and a wonderful showcase for Cranford House.

Our next opportunity to welcome visitors comes on Saturday 4 November as we zoom towards our Space Discovery Day! This hugely exciting, interactive event will run from 10am-12pm and is open to all families with children from the ages of 3 to 11. We hope our Nursery and Junior School families will join us, as well as extending the invitation to friends and family.

During the morning we are very fortunate to be joined by Helen Sharman, the first British astronaut, as well as a planetarium from Winchester Science museum! It promises to be a wonderful event for our school and the local community, with activities for our youngest pupils running across the school! I will look forward to seeing you there.

Meanwhile, the learning and fun has continued both at school, where our spectacular House Languages Show gave all Senior pupils the chance to reflect their learning from Languages Week, with some fantastic dancing and acting thrown in, and further afield, a band of our Year 9s headed off to Rutherford Appleton Laboratory for the IBM and STFC Girls in Technology Day, an engrossing experience which saw them heading inside a particle collider!

In Junior School, I was fortunate to join Year 3 as they consolidated their learning about the Stone Age with a fantastic trip to Stonehenge at the end of last week. I was very impressed by their enthusiasm, knowledge and the impressive questions they asked our guides. We have some excellent some budding historians in Year 3!

Half-term sees Senior pupils heading off on the Science Department’s trip to Florida and the Modern Foreign Languages cultural visit to Normandy. I’m sure all these trips prove invaluable in inspiring our pupils and my thanks go to all our dedicated staff, without whom the richness of trips we offer would not be possible. We look forward to hearing more on their return and please do follow our @CHTrips twitter feed for regular updates during the week!

I wish you all a restful half-term.
