Stories were brought vividly to life for Years 3 and 4 this week as they enjoyed a wonderful trip to Oxford’s Story Museum.

As well as reading and writing workshops that allow the children to continue developing their creative writing skills outside the classroom, they also explored the museum’s inventive and interactive exhibits. These opportunities to extend learning beyond the classroom are so important in developing pupils’ understanding of the world around them.

On a similar theme, the week’s dry weather has seen pupils heading outdoors for adventure and inspiration. Our Reception children have really been making the most of their fabulous outdoor learning space as they have investigated soil and how things grow. The arrival of their own composting wormery, complete with 250 tiger worms, caused much excitement! It was also great to see Year 4 pupils working outside in the bright sunshine as they investigated the capacity of liquid. This involved lots mental mathematics and much pouring of water – it proved soggy but fun!

It has been a busy week of sporting fixtures, including great success and an unbeaten record for our Junior and Senior Tennis teams. Across the school, preparations and practice are in full flow for our Sports Days and I know the PE department has been particularly impressed by the athletic abilities of our pupils.  I’ve greatly enjoyed seeing the collective enthusiasm for Cricket across the Junior and Senior School as our summer Sports programme continues apace.

Finally, as our Year 11 pupils focus ever more sharply on their forthcoming examinations, our Year 10s have been preparing to assume the mantle of the Senior School’s Positions of Responsibility. I have been incredibly impressed by their collective maturity and enthusiasm for taking on the leadership of the Senior School. I am, therefore, delighted to announce that this year’s Senior Head Girl will be Ella Markham, supported by Deputy Head girls, Mia Myers and Nerea Hopkins, and Senior Prefect, Catrin Fielding. I have no doubt they will do a superb job and I’m sure you will join me in wishing them all the best in their roles as figureheads for the school and role models for our community.

With best wishes,

Dr J Raymond
