Whilst many of us were relaxing over half-term, the break was packed with adventure and learning for our Year 10 Geographers as they headed off to North Wales for an exciting week of investigative field work.

As well as developing their geographical skills and knowledge as they tackled both Physical and Human Geography research projects, I understand they also manage to polish their table-tennis skills! Many of Year 10 have another adventure ahead as they spend the weekend hiking, orienteering and sleeping under canvas during their Silver DofE Practice Expedition – we wish them the best of luck and kind weather

Elsewhere in the Senior School, the week started with a Years 7-9 trip to Green Park Activity Centre in Buckinghamshire. It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm, determination, persistence and strong friendships amongst our pupils as they challenged themselves across the widest range of activities from archery to climbing, building trebuchets, orienteering, problem solving and much more besides during two action-packed days. One of the many benefits of school residential visits is the opportunity to develop self-confidence and build friendships. This, along with our pupils’ strong sense of fun, was very much in evidence throughout the trip - despite a less than warm 24 hours under canvas - and I was very proud of them all for their willingness to get involved and support each other.

It has been an equally busy week in the Junior School thanks to a fabulous Junior Music Concert on Monday and Year 4 Tea Concert yesterday afternoon. Both showcased the hard work of our superb Music Department and our pupils’ many musical talents to great effect. More music could be heard as our oldest Nursery children enjoyed a musical transition session in the Reception classroom as they prepare to join the class in September.

It has also been a busy week of sport as our pupils continue to work hard in lessons in preparation for their forthcoming Sports Day. Meanwhile our Years 5 and 6 Cricketers have been in action today, representing Cranford House in a local tournament at Chandlings School. I have just learnt that the team made it all the way through to the final, before being narrowly beaten by just ten runs, so I’m sure you will join me in congratulating them.

With best wishes for the weekend,
