The sunshine has finally returned at the end of an exciting week that has seen us inspired by the creative, sporting, dramatic and musical talents of pupils across the school.

Monday brought a spectacular Junior Music Concert with wonderful instrumental and vocal renditions from our young musicians who performed with real meaning and expression. The range, technical accuracy and sheer joy of the performances from our Junior Orchestra, choirs, ensembles and brass band really was quite exceptional, reflecting many hours of practice both in and out of school as our pupils continue their own individual learning journey. Well done to everyone involved.

More sterling performances followed on the track rather than the stage at our Senior School Sports Day at Tilsley Park. The level of competition was outstanding as pupils competed in the inspiring surroundings of an athletics stadium. We enjoyed some incredible examples of athleticism and technical ability across the running events and field disciplines. I was particularly struck by the collective capacity of each House to raise their performance level for the occasion, to support one another so positively and to engender a real sense of joyful competition. I hope those of you who came along enjoyed this day of sporting endeavour as much as I did.

Further treats awaited in the middle of the week courtesy of an incredible Year 3 and 4 production of ‘Troy Story’. Across three roof-raising performances, our young actors wowed audiences with their expressive performances, comic timing, musicality and self-assurance. A great deal of hard work and dedication goes into fabulous productions like these so many congratulations to all the cast and their teachers!

Meanwhile, this lively week has also seen an exciting Year 8 residential to Marlow’s Longridge centre where pupils challenged themselves through a host of outward-bound activities on dry land and on the Thames, a highly enjoyable Year 1 assembly and a band of hardy Year 10s setting off the Brecon Beacons for their Silver D of E weekend.

As we draw breath this weekend after such a busy five days, we look forward with excitement to our Senior Prize Giving at the Sheldonian Theatre in Oxford. I look forward to reflecting on a hugely successful year in school and the myriad achievements of our pupils.

With best wishes
