With the centenary of the end of the First World War very much in our minds this week, the school came together this morning to mark this historic event.

Our assembly found us reflecting on the anniversary of the guns falling silent on the western front, as well as the important role remembrance plays in our society. It also provided a poignant moment to consider all those men and women associated with Cranford House and the village of Moulsford who have served in the armed forces.

On the stroke of 11 o’clock, we joined together around the willow tree to pay collective tribute to all those who have given their lives in times of war for our freedom. It gave me great pleasure to then accompany our Junior and Senior Head Girl teams in laying a wreath at our local church, St John’s, in memory of those lost in the Great War, including our founder’s brother, Dudley Laurence, who was killed at the age of just 19.

Elsewhere in school, it has been a busy week of sport with success for both our Year 7-8 Football team against St Joseph’s and our Senior Hockey Seconds who triumphed against St Edwards. Congratulations also to our Year 3 Hockey teams who did a super job against Rupert House in only their second-ever matches!

It has been wonderful to speak to so many pupils during both our Senior School Experience Day and in individual interviews over the past week. Tuesday’s Experience Day saw us welcoming nearly 80 Year 6 pupils for an exciting day of Senior School lessons packed with some spectacular Science experiments and a Drama workshop that produced an impressive performance from Oliver!

It is very gratifying to see such strong demand continuing across the school, from Nursery right through to Year 12. We continue to make excellent progress with the planning and development of our Sixth Form and I've enjoyed some illuminating meetings with Heads of Department this week as we make final plans and preparations. We are very much looking forward to our Sixth Form Taster Day in a couple of weeks’ time.

Finally, my thanks to all the families who were able to join us for our Wings and Wheels Discovery Morning last Saturday. This was a truly exciting event and it was wonderful to see so many inspired young people. Please do take a look at our flickr album from the day if you've not yet had a chance to do so. My thanks once again to all the parents who supported the school in making this superb event possible and to everyone who donated towards Breast Cancer Care, raising an incredible £1,500.

With best wishes
