Our Nursery's large green spaces enable children to enjoy their own Forest School on site.

Forest Schools developed in Scandinavia in the 1950s and operate on the principle that children can benefit greatly from the learning opportunities inherent in an outdoor environment when it is a regular part of their curriculum.

Through regular sessions in the same outdoor area, children develop:

  • An innate motivation and positive attitude to learning
  • Personal confidence and self esteem
  • Language, communication and social skills
  • A wider range of physical skills than are usually developed indoors

The main aim is to help children enjoy learning and playing outside through a range of activities, such as mud pie-making, observing seasonal changes and making pictures using natural materials.

Forest School sessions take place weekly and pupils don their outdoor gear to make the most of this wonderful learning opportunity.
