An introduction to sport

A brief overview from our Heads of Department

Timetabled lessons for all Senior pupils, plus an incredible range of extra-curricular sports clubs which take in everything from trampolining to martial arts, allow all our pupils to find an activity that enthuses them.

KS3

In Key Stage 3, the main sports of hockey, netball, rounders, football, athletics and tennis are taught and played competitively through the season during Games lessons. Throughout the year, they are also supplemented by a range of extra skills and sports such as swimming, gymnastics, football, trampolining, cricket, pop lacrosse and badminton.

KS4

In Key Stage 4, GCSE PE proves a very popular choice among pupils. This is taught as a specific curriculum option and does not detract from the regular timetabled sport in which all pupils participate in Years 10 and 11. We also offer alternatives such as fitness, yoga, handball, badminton, touch rugby and cricket. For those selected for teams, Senior School hockey and football fixtures are played in the Autumn term, netball in the Spring term and rounders and tennis in the Summer term.

Extra-Curricular

Our extra-curricular sporting activities take place before, during and after school. These include team practice sessions for hockey, netball, rounders, and tennis; swimming clubs; dance clubs; judo and martial arts clubs; gymnastics clubs; trampolining and badminton; plus private tennis coaching from a LTA Level 4 coach.
