The school rang to the sound of music not just once but twice this week thanks to exciting events in both Junior and Senior School.

First of these was a superb Senior production of The Sound Of Music which brought the story of the von Trapp family vividly to life. Complete with fantastic performances, wonderful singing and superlative accompaniment from our house band, it was an absolute musical treat! My congratulations to everyone involved, from the cast to the crew and staff, and my thanks to the parents who gave their time behind the scenes to make it such a success.

Secondly, Junior pupils had their air guitars at the ready as they arrived at school in an array of colourful costumes, ready for our Mathematics Rock Stars Day! Pupils tackled a host of tricky mathematical puzzles with the help of the visiting Happy Puzzle Company, as well as an array of number bond and times table challenges, all with a lot of fun thrown in along the way. The buzz of excitement around school all day long really was palpable!

Our Junior Parents’ Evening also proved an extremely enjoyable event, giving us the chance to review pupils’ progress and look forward to the rest of the academic year. My thanks to all of you who were able to attend.

Looking ahead, I'm pleased to say that work will start next week to create a new, astro-turfed playing space on our front field. This will provide an all-weather outdoor play area which can be used year round. We expect the project to be completed early next term and I look forward to seeing pupils enjoying the newly-improved space.

Finally, I hope many of you will join us in school tomorrow afternoon as we hold our Christmas Fair: an event that marks the beginning of the season’s festivities here at Cranford House. Many thanks in advance to our hard-working PTA for organising what I know will be a spectacular event. I very much look forward to seeing you there.

With best wishes

Dr James Raymond
