Happy new year and welcome back! We have enjoyed seeing pupils return after the Christmas break and are looking forward to an action-packed term ahead, with much to look forward to. Much like the start of the new academic year, January heralds new beginnings, and is an exciting time to reflect on successes and achievements of the previous year whilst considering goals for this year. Much more than a measurement of time, the start of the new year provides a wonderful opportunity to plan ahead. For some pupils, this may be looking at fairly significant changes, such as our Year 13 Sixth Form students, who are considering university options and beyond. For other pupils, it may be overcoming a challenge, or learning something new. However, each individual journey of our pupils is unique and important, and we as staff, are incredibly excited about supporting them in achieving and realising their goals over the course of the year.

A key milestone for our Year 11 pupils is their GCSE mocks, which started yesterday. Year 11 should be congratulated for the way in which they have approached these exams. I know they have been working hard, displaying huge amounts of resilience and maturity. They have also, very commendably, done this with positivity, smiles and an abundance of care for each other and are well set for next week as the exams continue.

We welcome this week Mr Webb, who starts with us as a Teacher of Religious Studies. Joining us from Portsmouth Academy, Mr Webb has significant experience in the teaching and delivery of the Religious Studies curriculum up to A level. I know Mr Webb has enjoyed meeting pupils this week and he looks forward to seeing parents in due course.

Finally, you may have noticed in the press that we are advertising for new a Director of Finance and Operations. Mrs Taylor, after an incredible 11 years in this role, will be leaving Cranford at the end of the academic year. Her contribution to the development of school facilities, supporting educational excellence, has been truly incredible. Her passion for Cranford has been long-standing, having all three of her children attend school, in addition to her service as a member of staff. There is no doubt that she will be greatly missed as both a colleague and friend.

With best wishes for the new year!
