The past few weeks have brought several exciting outdoor adventures for our pupils.

Our intrepid Year 10 Geography GCSE pupils headed off for an action-packed field trip to North Wales during Half Term, measuring river beds, honing their orienteering skills and exploring some spectacular landscapes along the way. Not to be outdone, Year 7 headed out for a two-day residential at the Green Park activity centre, impressing us all with their determination, team-work and sense of fun as they tackled climbing walls, built trebuchets, competed at Archery and beat the staff at Rounders! I was particularly impressed by their willingness to challenge themselves and the strong support they showed for their friends throughout.

Back at school, we were treated to a superb assembly filled with zoological, geographical and environmental facts about Brazil, accompanied by some accomplished samba dancing, thanks to Year 6! Meanwhile, the Orangery resounded to some wonderful musical performances and lovely group ensembles as Year 5 presented their Tea Concert to an appreciative audience of family and friends. Over at Nursery, the weather proved unkind but that didn’t stop the fun at our Teddy Bears’ Picnic as families joined together to share some tasty treats and enjoy some lovely singing from the Nursery boys and girls.

Finally, we were honoured to welcome Ruth Barnett, Holocaust survivor, to share her experiences of the Second World War with some of our Senior pupils. At the age of just four, Ruth was evacuated from Nazi-controlled Germany on the Kindertransport and spoke movingly of her experiences as a refugee and the continued importance of remembering the Holocaust in today’s world. Her visit held a particular relevance in a week where the nation also commemorated the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

With best wishes
